This quarter's project was divided in 2 big parts. We had to write a new story that properly showed everything we learned about sci-fi, and then make a small video of us telling that story with some sort of visual aid.
The first part, the writing, was very hard for me, although I did enjoy it. I think I tried to write the story about 5 times. In every one of those times, I produced a story that I then thought was not what I was looking for. At one point, I wrote zombies, I wrote about war, I wrote about many other things that weren't in the final story; But I thought none of those was really good enough to show. Finally I settled for an idea, A guy dying unwillingly in an accident, The reason I liked this idea was pretty much the ending; that moment when he realizes he's going to die and there is nothing he can do, that thought scares me, a lot. So I thought if I could capture that moment, my story would be very powerful. And I gave it my best.
The second part was also very hard, although for very different reasons. When I heard about this second part I was quite lost, I hadn't the slightest clue about what I was going to do. The voice-over part was easy for me, although it took many takes to get it right; the real challenge was the visual aid. I had to decide on how to animate the story, give it more life. I settled on drawings made by hand for a simple reason, I like drawing. However, drawing took forever; I spent about an hour and a half on every drawing for a total of 15 drawings. When I was working, much like the character in my story, I was running out of time very rapidly. In the end, I had to stop adding so much detail to every drawing, which I didn't like at all. Time was my main enemy in this second part.
Overall, I like the first part, the writing part of the project much more. The first part was fun, making my own little universe, my own story where I control everything is fantastic. The second part, although fun, I think it was a little unnecessary. making a visual aid for a story or even looking at a book's illustrations is something I hate. When I usually read, I can picture the entire story on my mind in a way that is perfect for me; Illustrations take that freedom away, you can no longer let your imagination run wild since now you know what it actually looked like. I feel like simply reading our story to the entire class would have been more fun and better for the stories themselves.
